About FoDK

Friends of Di's Kitchen (FoDK) is a charitable organisation that became operational just before the pandemic in 2020. Originally, it had run for many years as Tab's Kitchen, a soup kitchen at The Tabernacle Baptist Church in Whitmore Reans. It was originally started by an inspirational lady called Di Henry. Every Thursday at 4pm a meal was available, to eat in the church hall and guests could chat with volunteers and others. Sadly, Di passed away in 2018, but some of the volunteers who had originally worked with her at Tab's Kitchen wanted to carry on her good work.

Just before the pandemic started the soup kitchen, now called Friends of Di's Kitchen moved to St Andrew's Church in Whitmore Reans and then came the lockdown. Inspired by Di and determined to carry on her good work, her friend, Jan Kellond masterminded how to carry on. She had her own kitchen assessed by food safety and hygiene authorities, and was given the highest award. That meant Jan and her team of volunteers could prepare food there. As the hall was now closed, because of lockdown, the team had to deliver the food.

Since delivering just a few meals in Whitmore Reans area in March 2020, word has spread and the team have now prepared and delivered over 100,000 meals to guests, across all of Wolverhampton.
